As of recently, creative hobbies and side hustles are becoming commonplace in more and more people's lives.
Wether it is to make things they can't afford or doing things because they enjoy it, people are getting back into plenty of different creative arts.
However a big problem emerging creatives face is a lack of motivation, discipline, and guidance. This is because in the world we live in, online resources are at a staple but mentorship not as much.
This results in people who know exactly what they are doing wrong with no idea as to how to do it right. Another drawback of this online and remote learning is the lack of a workshop, community and mentor
A workshop is the place where the work and learning takes place, where all your tools of the trade and materials live, unfortunately the majority of people don't have access to workshop
and are forced to create spaces in which the eat, sleep, work, and create. It is scientifically proven that an environment that has no crystal clear purpose confuses the mind, resulting in a
profound lack of motivation and it becomes an intense struggle to do the thing you want to do. Community and mentorship go hand in hand, without a need or demand for your creativity
people aren't as motivated as they used to be. eg. If someone is paying you to fix their dress, or just excited to hear of your progress, people automaticcaly become more productive
simply having someone interested in what you are doing has an immense impact on how you do your work. Mentors foster this environment where learning and actually doing the thing is so easy
that many people just do the thing without any struggle. This is why more people go to art schools and not as many are self taught.
Here is my advice for self learning based on the abovementioned facts. Create a warkshop that is yours and that can be very conveniently accessed with minimal effort.
Your workshop can be anything, from a box with all your tools, a sectioned off corner on your desk, and even a certain file directory on your computer.
Once you set up a place where everything relevant to your work lives, doing it becomes very easy,
now placing this little workshop in a place you are constantly seeing it will also help tremendously. Next is mentorship and community, so many people are in the exact same situation as you
so create a community. We have never had easier access to friends than we do now, get in contact with kind people and form a group, this group will be you community and mentor.
Ask each other for advice, tips, criticism, anything. Create an environment that fosters learning and very quickly you will see your skill and determination improve.
